On February 2, 2023, We conducted an awareness program on Birds and Wetlands at the Government Middle School in Manmalai, located in the Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. The event witnessed the participation of 150 students. Utilizing a collection of photographs capturing various bird species within the Kallakurichi district, We aimed to impart knowledge regarding the significance of birds in maintaining biodiversity and the crucial role of wetlands within the ecosystem.
The visual presentation of these bird photographs evoked great enthusiasm among the students. Their curiosity was piqued as they delved into the images, prompting them to inquire and exchange their own encounters and observations.
The aftermath of the awareness program bore fruit in the form of the establishment of the “Spread Wings” bird club within the school. Presently, the club boasts a membership of 25 dedicated students. As part of the club’s activities, I have been leading expeditions to a nearby lake, offering students a firsthand experience of the delicate wetland ecosystem. These outings not only foster a deeper understanding of environmental conservation but also instill a sense of responsibility toward safeguarding our natural surroundings.
